SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The era of the Dutchmen/Dutchwomen has officially ended. Moving forward, Union College will be known as the Garnet Chargers. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! The new nickname beat out over 400 submissions by Union students, faculty, staff, and alumni. According to Union College, Garnet reflects the school's official color, and Chargers relates to Schenectady’s legacy as a hub for electrical innovation and invention. Chargers is also a metaphor for the high-energy, forward-looking Union College experience.A new mascot is being finalized. Merchandise with the new Bolt U logo can be purchased on the school's online store.

Suspect runs into a Clayton neighborhood after armed MetroLink assault

CLAYTON -- A suspect is under arrest after a MetroLink assault involving a handgun. Clayton Police say that they were notified of the crime at around 12:45 p.m.The suspect ran from the Clayton MetroLink station to the nearby Davis Place neighborhood. Police arrested the suspect and recovered a handgun.Police say that this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. St. Louis County Police are now handling the investigation.

WWII soldier's remains identified and to be buried in Illinois

MOUNT OLIVE, Ill -- Sgt. John W. Radanovich was a soldier who died in World War II. On August 12, his body will be buried at Union Miner Cemetery in Mount Olive, Illinois. Becker & Sons Funeral Home in Mount Olive will hold services at the grave before the burial. His remains were found by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency on May 11, 2023. They were recognized using DNA analysis. Radanovich's name is written on the Walls of the lost, along with the names of other people who are still lost from World War II at the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, Netherlands. His name will be marked with a pin to show that he has been found.   Radanovich was from Mount Olive, Illinois and was part of the 4th Infantry Division's Company G, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment. Martinez police have arrested a suspect days after Bentley’s Container Bar, Martinez’s newest martini and cocktail bar, was burglarized and vandalized.A little more than 24 hours after Bentley’s Container Bar held its grand opening in downtown Martinez on July 28, someone stole $10,000 worth of tools and vandalized the space – and a neighboring brewery captured the crime on surveillance footage.
