CTA's Holiday Train begins rolling on Black Friday

CHICAGO — The CTA's Holiday Train is back on the rails Friday afternoon.It begins just after 3 p.m. departing the Midway Orange Line station. The Holiday Train will hit every train line from Friday through Dec. 21.For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, photo sessions with Santa are available. Jolly Old St. Nick rides in an open flat car while on the train.The tradition began on the Blue Line in 2001.Visit here for the full schedule.

Woman, 2 kids injured in hit-and-run crash on South Side

CHICAGO — A woman and two children were injured in a hit-and-run crash on the South Side Thanksgiving night.Just before 9:45 p.m., officers said a vehicle, with a woman and two kids, 6 and 12, was traveling in the 8500 block of South MLK Drive when it was struck by another vehicle.The vehicle flipped and all three occupants were transported in fair condition.The other vehicle fled the scene.No one is in custody. Hamas frees 24 hostages in exchange for 39 Palestinian prisoners

RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Hamas on Friday released 24 hostages who had been held captive in Gaza for weeks, and Israel freed 39 Palestinians from prison in the first stage of a swap under a four-day cease-fire deal.The freed hostages included 13 Israelis, 10 people from Thailand and one from the Philippines, according to Qatar.The agreement opened the way for sorely needed aid to flow into Gaza for beleaguered residents. AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Slice of Amsterdam has opened for business at 189 Market Street in Amsterdam. Formerly known as Southside Slice, the pizzeria relocated from 68 Bridge Street. After two years in the building on Bridge Street, owners Brent and Corey Yager decided that they wanted to move closer to the center of the city and make their pizzeria more accessible to those who don’t drive. The pizza place closed on September 23 for the move.“When we were on the south side, we pushed for live music and pizza but sometimes it got so busy it just didn’t make sense,” said Brent Yager. OAKLAND — A woman who allegedly stated, “I’m not going to hurt you, I’m going to kill you,” before fatally shooting her victim during an early morning argument has been sentenced to 11 years in state prison through a plea deal, court records show.Renee Colvin, 33, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in exchange for the 11-year sentence, whereby prosecutors dropped a murder charge against her.
