Boulder County sheriff, DA to discuss Marshall fire’s cause

After 17 months of investigating everything from a religious cult to Xcel Energy power lines to an underground coal fire, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office is set to announce the findings of its investigation into the origins of the 2021 Marshall fire.Boulder County Sheriff Curtis Johnson and District Attorney Michael Dougherty will discuss those findings at 10 a.m. Thursday during a news conference at the sheriff’s office.The wildfire was the most costly in Colorado history, destroying more than $2 billion in property. Two people died in the fire, and more than 1,000 homes and businesses were destroyed in Superior, Louisville and unincorporated Boulder County.The Marshall fire’s intensity was fueled by powerful winds that pushed the wildfire across parched grass and brush. Pittsburg: Multi-car crash on Highway 4 leaves two trapped

PITTSBURG — A crash involving three cars early Thursday closed every lane of westbound Highway 4 and left two people trapped inside their vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol.The crash happened about 6:20 a.m. in the westbound direction at the Loveridge Road exit, the CHP said. Reports confirmed by the CHP said that one car overturned and that two people were trapped inside.The CHP issued a Sig-alert for severe traffic at 6:30 a.m., with no estimated time for the length of the closure. The two far left lanes were opened at 7:25 a.m., but three other lanes still were closed.The location of the crash is near where five people, including three children, died in a wrong-way collision last November. That crash was the first of 11 fatal crashes on Highway 4 that have occurred since then. A man waiting to undergo a psychiatric observation left a Mount Clemens hospital, stripped, swam across a river, and climbed up a 200-foot-tall cellphone antenna before being coaxed down, according to firefighters.The incident happened at about 9:30 a.m. when the man walked out of the emergency room at McLaren Macomb hospital.
