Witness to peaceful pro-life demonstrationRe: “Abortion opponents need to keep their distance,” June 8 letter to the editorI’m both surprised and sorry to hear that women have experienced “disgusting signs yelling and parading around calling them baby killers.”Having recently and personally seen pro-life men, women, and young people respectfully gathered within legal limits outside Planned Parenthood offices in both Littleton and Denver, I saw these things:• groups and individuals praying both silently and out loud for both mothers and their unborn babies;• people offering information on agencies that offer free support for moms and babies in need, including pregnancy tests, baby supplies, food, and physical, emotional, and mental health support.• and, yes, respectful people carrying signs that said: “We Pray Because We Love You Both,” “Equal Rights for Unborn Women,” “Love Them Both!”, “Everyone Deserves a Birt...

Club Q shooting suspect pleads guilty to murder, no contest to hate crime charges in 2022 attack

COLORADO SPRINGS — A 23-year-old suspect pleaded guilty Monday to carrying out a mass shooting at a Colorado Springs LGBTQ nightclub last year that killed five people and injured 22 others.Anderson Aldrich pleaded guilty in the Nov. 19 attack at Club Q during his arraignment in El Paso County District Court on Monday. Aldrich pleaded guilty to five counts of first-degree murder and 46 counts of attempted first-degree murder.Aldrich also pleaded no contest to two counts of bias-motivated crime, acknowledging that prosecutors likely could prove Aldrich acted at least in part because Club Q was an LGBTQ bar and was patronized by people who identify as LGBTQ.Aldrich will be sentenced to five consecutive life terms.The 23-year-old originally was charged with more than 300 counts in connection with the massacre, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, assault and bias-motivated crimes.Video surveillance footage played in court showed that Aldrich donned body armor and attac...

Family of missing actor Julian Sands awaits ID of human remains found on Mt. Baldy

Authorities in San Bernardino County are expected to release more information early this week about the human remains found by hikers in the Mt. Baldy wilderness – an area where crews have been searching for missing British actor Julian Sands.The remains were discovered Saturday morning and transported to the county coroner for identification, the sheriff's department said. This came several days after a large-scale search involving around 80 people failed to find the "Room with a View" and "Warlock" actor.“We are deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian,” his family said last Wednesday in their first statement since Sands disappeared while hiking Mt. Man robbed, shot, left to die in San Bernardino County desert, sheriff's department says

A man was robbed and shot in Apple Valley, then left in the desert near Landers, where his body was found, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.The unidentified man was reportedly robbed and shot at least one time in the 21600 block of Roundup Way a few minutes after midnight Sunday, officials said in a news release. Deputies learned that the victim was then taken to and left at "an unknown desert area," the release said.At 5:25 p.m., an off-road vehicle rider found a dead man near Old Woman Springs Road in Landers."Investigators believe the deceased male to be the shooting victim. Cabazon man shoots sister, then self in Riverside County, says sheriff's department

A Riverside County man shot and killed his sister and then himself on Sunday afternoon, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. At 4:40 p.m., deputies found 36-year-old Rose V. Fidler inside a vehicle in the 1500 block of Elm Street in Cabazon, where she had been shot to death, authorities said in a news release.While responding to that shooting, deputies were called to the 5200 block of Riza Avenue, where 40-year-old Leonard Gamez was dead after "suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound," officials added."Investigators determined both incidents are related based on witness statements and evidence located at both scenes," said the release, which added that Gamez is Fidler's brother.No details regarding a possible motive were released by investigators.Anyone with information is encouraged to call Lead Investigator J.
