Mount Blue Sky renaming act passes Senate committee

DENVER (KDVR) -- The Mount Evans Wilderness is one step closer to becoming the Mount Blue Sky Wilderness, thanks to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.On Thursday, the committee passed the act, referring it to Congress.Both U.S. Sens. John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet have been strong proponents of the bill. It's designed to no longer honor the second territorial Colorado Gov. John Evans, who "paved the way" for the Sand Creek Massacre on Nov. 29, 1864, according to a release from Hickenlooper's office. DENVER (KDVR) -- A recent survey from USA Today suggests that getting through security checkpoints at airports might be less stressful if you are behind a Colorado resident.USA Today surveyed Americans in each state about their habits when it comes to air travel to find where travelers are the most and least efficient. How to reserve a spot in the security line at DIA The survey looked at many aspects of air travel including security, boarding, deplaning, stowing and finding luggage and more.Coloradans were ranked as the third overall most efficient air travelers in the U.S., behind Wisconsin and Alaska. About 200 South Florida children made a special trip to toy land, with a little help from local law enforcement.The children, who come from all over Broward County, were each gifted $200 dollars for a Walmart shopping spree as part of the annual Shopping with the Sheriff event in Fort Lauderdale, Thursday. Every child at the event was accompanied by a member of law enforcement.The event hosted by the Broward Sheriff’s Foundation in partnership with the Broward Sheriff’s Office.“I’m a big kid. Judge denies request to delay retrial of man accused of killing Weymouth police officer, 77-year-old woman

A judge ruled Thursday on the retrial of a man accused of killing a Weymouth police officer and a 77-year-old woman, denying a request from the defense team to delay the trial. Emanuel Lopes is facing charges in connection with the 2018 deaths of Sgt. Michael Chesna and Weymouth resident Vera Adams. Michigan court rejects challenges to Trump’s spot on 2024 primary ballot

(AP) — The Michigan Court of Appeals said Thursday it won’t stop former President Donald Trump from appearing on the state’s 2024 Republican primary ballot, turning aside challenges from critics who argue that his role in the 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol disqualifies him.The court affirmed two lower court rulings without determining whether Trump falls under the insurrection clause in the Constitution’s 14th Amendment.“Who to place on the primary ballot is determined by the political parties and the individual candidates,” the appeals court said in a 3-0 opinion, citing Michigan law.The court further said Trump’s possible spot on a general election ballot was not ripe for consideration.The two-sentence clause in the 14th Amendment has been used only a handful of times since the years after the Civil War. Senate passes Liberal bill that enshrines handgun freeze, targets ghost guns

(AP) — The Tennessee Supreme Court on Thursday appointed a new judge to preside over the case of another judge who has been indicted on charges of coercion of a witness and harassment in Memphis.Shelby County Criminal Court Judge Melissa Boyd was indicted Tuesday and booked Wednesday on the charges, which follow her suspension from the bench earlier this year.Boyd’s colleague, Judge Jennifer Mitchell, recused herself from the case on Wednesday. The Tennessee Supreme Court appointed Roy B. Morgan Jr., a senior judge in the state court system, to the case, court documents show.Elected in 2022, Boyd is accused of coercing, influencing or attempting to influence Lashanta Rudd, her former campaign manager, to testify falsely or “withhold truthful testimony” in an official proceeding, the indictment says.
