DENVER (KDVR) — An NBA legend is bringing a new soul food restaurant to the Five Points neighborhood, and the location was announced on Thursday afternoon.The building at the corner of the 2600 block of Welton Street is empty now, but soon it will be transformed into Fixins Soul Kitchen. Kevin Johnson, the former NBA player who was previously mayor of Sacramento, California, is the owner and operator."We feel so honored to be a part of this community," Johnson said at a private event announcing the new restaurant. "I been coming to Denver since about 35 years ago, in 1988, when I played for the Phoenix Suns."Johnson started the small chain that now has locations in Sacramento, Los Angeles and Tulsa, Oklahoma. 3 people rescued in Aurora's rising waters

DENVER (KDVR) -- Aurora Fire Rescue crews managed to get three people trapped in rising waters to safety Friday. The first rescue involved one person trapped in a car off Hudson Road after 1 p.m. The driver of that vehicle was brought to safety and not injured. Two people trapped on 56th Avenue, just East of E-470, were rescued with the help of Aurora Fire's Swiftwater Rescue, and Technical Rescue Team. AFR said there were six large pipes that flow water from Boxelder Creek under 56th Avenue and crews were concerned about the potential of rescuers and victims being swept under the road. Poll shows more Americans support legal abortions

DENVER (KDVR) -- A new poll taken last week showed more Americans support legal abortions following the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade last year.According to the Gallup poll, nearly 70% of Americans say abortion should generally be legal in the first three months of pregnancy. Gallup said that is a record high with the most support since it started the survey 27 years ago.At the same time, it also showed more people identify as pro-life than last year. Man arrested in connection to armed robbery outside SW Miami-Dade home that led to chase, shots fired

Police have made an arrest in connection to an armed robbery outside a Southwest Miami-Dade home that led to a chase and shots fired.Miami-Dade Police confirmed on Friday evening that they have taken Tavoris Odom into custody.Investigators said the 33-year-old held up the driver of a Lamborghini outside his home, near the stop sign at Southwest 77th Street, near 127th Avenue.Speaking with 7News on Thursday, the victim, Peter Gonzalez, said the suspect stole his jewelry as his wife sat inside the sports car.Gonzalez said he decided to follow the robber in the Lamborghini, and at one point, the suspect got out of his vehicle and shot at the victim’s car four times. No one was hurt.Odom has been charged with robbery and attempted murder.

Woman hit and dragged in road rage incident in Salem, NH

Police in Salem, New Hampshire asked for the public’s help Friday after they said a driver allegedly hit a pedestrian and dragged her in an apparent road rage incident, injuring the pedestrian. Police said the incident happened around 11 a.m. on Route 28 near the road’s intersection with Central Street. Police shared photos of a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident, describing it as a light blue Chevy Silverado with New Hampshire license plates. Police asked anyone with information on this incident to contact them by phone at 603-893-1911, by email at [email protected] or through their Facebook page.

CHICAGO (AP) — Riccardo Muti will become the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s music director emeritus for life starting next season.The announcement was made on the stage of Orchestra Hall on Friday night after a performance of Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis,” the start of Muti’s final subscription weekend as music director. His tenure began with the 2010-11 season.Muti repeats the Beethoven on Saturday night and Sunday, then closes his tenure Tuesday night with a free concert in Millennium Park. Muti, who turns 82 in July, is scheduled to conduct the CSO for six weeks in each of the next two seasons.
