PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (AP) — Ira “Ike” Schab had just showered, put on a clean sailor's uniform and closed his locker aboard the USS Dobbin when he heard a call for a fire rescue party.He went topside to see the USS Utah capsizing and Japanese planes in the air. He scurried back below deck to grab boxes of ammunition and joined a daisy chain of sailors feeding shells to an anti-aircraft gun up above. AUSTIN (KXAN) — Sobs of grief could be heard outside the south Austin home where two people were shot and killed Tuesday. Their respective family members came together to pray and reflect just 24 hours after those fatal shots rang out. 6 people dead after shooting spree in Austin, double homicide in Bexar County A man and woman were fatally shot outside the home on the 1700 block of Shadywood Drive on Tuesday, according to the Austin Police Department.On Wednesday, police identified the man as Emmanuel Pop Ba, 32. I’d never heard of Sandra Day O’Connor when the news broke that she was President Ronald Reagan’s likely nominee for the new vacancy on the Supreme Court. This was in 1981, toward the end of my term as a law clerk for Justice Thurgood Marshall, and a bunch of us crowded around the one Lexis terminal in the court library — yes, one, and yes, a terminal — in hope of tracking down some of her opinions.We didn’t find much. It’s a racquet sport speakeasy of sorts, with year-round, indoor play spread across four pickleball courts, four squash courts – and what’s believed to be the first padel court in the state of Minnesota.Padel is a game that marries parts of tennis, pickleball and squash to create a unique racquet sport where players use a stringless paddle to strike a ball similar to a tennis ball. Domo owner asks guests to be patient as he reopens restaurant

Gaku Homma requires one thing from customers when they walk through Domo Japanese Country Restaurant’s recently reopened doors: patience.At 73 years old, the chef is still constantly on his feet, cooking, cleaning dishes and greeting guests. “I am happy to be back here, but I am busy,” he said.Homma reopened Domo, at 1365 Osage St., last month after a year hiatus, but with a smaller menu, limited hours and only four people on staff, two up front and two in the kitchen; that’s compared to the nearly 30 he had before the closure.“My hands can only hold so much,” Homma said.Domo closed temporarily in 2021 after a 40-second TikTok video of the restaurant’s beautiful outdoor gardens went viral and led to hundreds of people forming lines around the restaurant, overwhelming Homma and his staff. Police are asking the public for help Thursday in their search for a mother who disappeared with her two children in Fontana Wednesday night. Elizabeth Castrejon, 33, was last seen pushing her children, aged 9 and 2, in a wagon after leaving her home near Wabash and Palmetto avenues without her phone or wallet at about 11 p.m."Elizabeth, who recently relocated to Fontana and has no local family or friends, may be dealing with an undiagnosed mental health condition," the Police Department posted on Instagram.Castrejon was wearing a black sweater and black yoga pants at the time of her disappearance. Poll: Most Californians don't want the U.S. to play favorites in the Israel-Palestinian conflict, with one exception

A new poll shows the majority of adults in California believe the United States should not take a side when it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The poll, conducted by the Public Policy Institute of California, found that 61% of Californians, with variations across age groups and party lines, don’t want the nation to back either side."Twenty-eight percent of adults and 37 percent of likely voters say the US should take Israel’s side, while 9 percent of adults and 11 percent of likely voters say the US should take Palestine’s side," the PPIC website stated. Flammable materials removed from under 10 Freeway

Efforts were underway overnight to make a portion of the 10 Freeway through downtown Los Angeles safer. Caltrans crews worked into the early morning hours Thursday to remove flammable materials from an area under the freeway on 17th Street between Naomi Avenue and Hooper Avenue. Video showed crews using a loader to fill up a dump truck with large amounts of wood and debris. Pallets, abandoned vehicles and other items were also found at the location. A massive pallet fire closed the 10 Freeway through the downtown area for eight days last month.
