BOSTON — Tanner Houck’s outing came to a premature end on Friday when Kyle Higashioka struck the Red Sox righty in the face with a line drive.Houck tried to get his glove on the ball, but it left him with a facial fracture and forced him out of Boston’s 15-5 win after allowing one earned run over four innings. Pennsylvania trooper, suspect killed in shootout; 2nd trooper seriously wounded

LEWISTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A state trooper and a suspect were both killed Saturday in a shootout in central Pennsylvania, hours after the suspect seriously wounded another trooper, state police said.Police in Juniata County said a man engaged troopers at about 12:45 p.m. near the Lewistown barracks and shot one trooper, who was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.Authorities found the man shortly before 3 p.m. in Walker Township, about 26 miles (42 kilometers) northwest of the initial incident. The shooter and a trooper were then killed during the resulting shootout, state police said in a news release. Officials said Saturday evening that there was no threat to the public. The troopers’ names and the condition of the wounded trooper weren’t immediately available. Gov. (AP) — A man who was hospitalized with severe injuries after what an official called “altercations and an escape attempt” at a New Mexico county jail has been taken off life support and died, authorities said.John Sanchez, 34, was pronounced dead Friday at University of New Mexico Hospital, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Deputy Angelina Navarro told the Albuquerque Journal. CHICAGO — A body that was pulled from the Chicago River in West Town Saturday morning has been identified, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.According to the ME's office, 26-year-old Noah Enos has been identified as the body recovered from the water near the 1300 block of North Elston Avenue near the Salt Shed around 9:45 a.m. Multiple shot near Lincoln Park Zoo: Chicago Police Police said the man was pronounced dead on the scene. Pittsburg man dead, another arrested after Saturday morning assault

PITTSBURG — A 50-year-old man who was physically assaulted died from his injuries early Saturday and police later arrested a suspect on suspicion of murder, authorities said.Around 1:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of an active altercation between two men and found the Pittsburg resident unresponsive on the ground, near the intersection of Railroad Avenue and East Leland Road, according to police.The man was pronounced dead at the intersection.Police later located and arrested 46-year-old Pittsburg resident Juan Mendez-Medina, who was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on suspicion of murder.Police are still actively investigating the assault.
