Having more money than you know what to do with is usually a good thing, but for one California family, it's a little bit more complicated than that.John Reyes, a realtor from the Inland Empire, is trying to figure out what to do with more than 1 million pennies he and his wife discovered in her father's former home in the Pico-Union neighborhood of Los Angeles.The pennies were found in a crawlspace way back in the basement of the home last year while the family was cleaning out the home that once belonged to John's father-in-law, Fritz.The home was built in the early 1900s, and the family believes it was once used as a bed and breakfast. A construction worker who died after being crushed by a concrete wall in Pacoima was described by his family as a loving husband, father and “irreplaceable” grandfather of three.Javier Calderon, 49, was killed in the accident Wednesday morning.The collapse was reported around 8:45 a.m. in the 10500 block of Glenoaks Boulevard. 26-year-old man gets 16 years to life in murder of woman in Oxnard

A 26-year-old man who has suffered from severe mental illness was sentenced to 16 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the killing of a woman in Oxnard, authorities announced Wednesday.  James Beam, who is originally from Iowa, and the victim, Sybil Woodbury, were both homeless and living in an Oxnard shopping center when the fatal April 9, 2020, incident occurred.  The 26-year-old followed Woodbury to a darkened, isolated area of the shopping center’s parking lot and stabbed her to death while under the delusion that the victim was a threat to him and his children who lived out of state, according to a news release from the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.  “Ms. Woodbury died from a stab wound to the chest about 45 minutes after the attack,” officials said.  On April 15, 2020, detectives with the Oxnard Police Department arrested Beam, who subsequently confessed to the murder.  “Following Beam’s arrest, a thorou...

Vallejo stabbing suspect arrested after hours-long standoff

(KRON) -- A man accused of committing a stabbing in Vallejo was arrested on Wednesday after a standoff that lasted several hours, the Vallejo Police Department said. VPD responded to a home on the 100 block of Ralston Court at about 12:23 p.m. for the report of a stabbing. A man with a non-life-threatening stab wound was located and hospitalized, police said. San Jose rampage suspect worked for Google, had meth problem: court documents The suspect refused to leave the home, and Vallejo's SWAT team and Hostage Negotiation Team arrived at the scene. After several hours of what police called "failed negotiations," the SWAT team entered the home and arrested the suspect without incident. He was identified as Ken Lamar Best. Best was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and booked into Solano County Jail.
