“Wild Life,” the latest eco-conscious documentary from filmmakers Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin (“Free Solo,” “Meru”) is a rickety helicopter tour of a fascinating marriage; nearly every scene makes you want to stop and explore in more detail.Things move fast with barely a beat of introduction. Those unfamiliar with American philanthropists Kristine McDivitt Tompkins and her husband, Douglas Tompkins, may feel in the film’s opening minutes as disoriented as if they’ve been dropped in the wilderness. The city of Los Angeles and police suffered a setback in court Tuesday when a judge declined to issue a restraining order relating to the released photos and data of thousands of LAPD officers. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff rejected the city's request for a temporary restraining order to prevent the information and images to be used by an online database called "Watch the Watchers," a project of the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition, the Los Angeles times reported. The driver who slammed into a mother and her child as they walked to school in L.A.’s Mid-Wilshire neighborhood Tuesday morning was speeding and may have been intoxicated, and he was placed under arrest Wednesday morning, according to police.The crash happened just before 8 a.m. in the 6200 block of West Colgate Avenue, across the street from Hancock Park Elementary.The male driver of a white pickup truck, according to police, was speeding when he struck a woman in her 30s and her 6-year-old daughter in an intersection, struck a light pole, and then crashed into an apartment building.The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. CHESTER — The final snowpack survey of the year took a bit more effort for the PG&E team at Lassen Volcanic National Park.In the dense, late April snow, PG&E hydrographers drilled through 211 inches of snowpack Tuesday to reach the gravel parking lot of the Lassen Peak trailhead — by jumping on their equipment like a pogo stick.“At many other sites we can core many samples by hand. Officials identified the suspects as Joseph Koenig, Nicholas “Mitch” Karol-Chik, and Zachary Kwak. Suspect in Santa Rosa Exchange Bank robbery arrested

(KRON) -- The Santa Rosa Police Department has arrested a suspect connected to a robbery at the Exchange Bank on Calistoga Road that happened in February, officials said. The suspect told the bank teller he was armed and that he would shoot the teller if they did not hand over an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.On Feb. 3 around 12:34 p.m., the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Rohnert Park resident Christopher Cairati robbed the bank. Police said he threatened to shoot the teller and at one point raised his shirt, but it was unclear whether he was armed. Charges will be dropped against man arrested for striking ex-SF fire commissioner in Marina, statement says Cairati fled on foot down Calistoga Road with the stolen cash. (BCN) -- Santa Clara County is still struggling to clean up its poor air quality, with communities of color among the most affected. The American Lung Association's newly released 2023 State of the Air report shows Santa Clara County scored an "F" on the report in high ozone days and particle pollution levels -- factors that contribute to an array of health concerns including asthma and respiratory infections. Experts said bad air quality and pollution disproportionately affects low-income residents and communities of color, and requires immediate attention. Gabriela Chavez-Lopez, executive director of the Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley, said low-income communities, especially those in East San Jose, have long been disproportionately impacted by pollution.
