Goodbye, snowy winters? New climate report offers dry projections

(NEXSTAR) — While a strong El Niño will likely bring more snow and precipitation to part of the U.S. this winter, a new federal climate report suggests dependably snowy winters may be in jeopardy. The Fifth National Climate Assessment, released Tuesday, shows the planet will likely heat up by an average of between 4.5 and 7.2 degrees Fahrenheit compared to pre-industrial times — outpacing goals of both the U.S. and international community, The Hill reports. The average U.S. temperature is likely to rise between 4.4 and 5.6 degrees, with northern and western parts of the country likely to experience the warming at disproportionate levels, according to the report. It isn’t just the temperature that has a dire outlook. Travelers to Mexico can get deep discounts on flights through Alaska Airlines, but time is running out to book trips.The airline announced Tuesday it would be slashing prices for flights to celebrate 35 years of flying to Mexico.The three-day sale started on Tuesday and ends Thursday, with some flights going for as low as $99 one way. LONDON (AP) — Police in England arrested a man Tuesday on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with the death of American ice hockey player Adam Johnson, whose neck was cut by a skate during a game.Johnson, 29, was playing for the Nottingham Panthers against the Sheffield Steelers on Oct. 28 when he was struck by an opponent's skate blade in the Elite Ice Hockey League game at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena.South Yorkshire Police did not name the suspect or provide his age. Pedestrian Fatally Struck in DUI Accident near West Lake Mead BoulevardLAS VEGAS, NV (November 14, 2023) – Jose Ramirez was placed in jail Saturday afternoon after a DUI pedestrian crash on Decatur and West Lake Mead Boulevard.
