Pride Month in L.A. was bigger, bolder and more diverse than ever, so it deserves a big look back. Led by events via two Pride organizations: LA Pride and WeHo Pride, it was a month filled with music, art, activism, discussion and lots of revelry. Oakland’s 911 dispatch system glitches again, slowing emergency response

A computer system failure Saturday morning has again forced dispatchers in Oakland’s high-volume 911 center to take down callers’ information with pen and paper, slowing the city’s ability to respond to emergencies.The system, which police officers rely upon to communicate with dispatchers, had been down for about 26 hours this week until it was temporarily restored early Friday evening. But as of around 9:10 a.m. Saturday, city officials said they had again “observed impacts” to the system.“All dispatch staff have resumed manual call routing,” the city said in a statement. “As a result, routing for calls is currently slower than normal. Many of the Bay Area’s lowest-paid workers are receiving a pay bump this month as several cities increase their local minimum wage.While the wage hikes are welcomed by labor advocates who say low-income workers are being squeezed to the breaking point, they add that it’s not nearly enough to address the region’s affordability crisis.In Fremont, with 223,000 people, the minimum wage rose July 1 from $16 to $16.80, a 5% increase meant to keep up with higher prices for rent, food and other goods and services. In Berkeley, the minimum wage increased from $16.99 to $18.07.“I only wish that they were bigger increases,” said Isaiah Toney, deputy director of campaigns for East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy, an organization that addresses economic equity issues and advocates for low-wage workers and communities of color. “We see not only that wages aren’t keeping up with cost-of-living and inflation increases, but other costs are increasing faster — like housing.”In the San Fr...

Denver (KDVR) -- The Denver Police Department said Saturday that they are investigating a deadly hit-and-run as a homicide.Police said a man was assaulted and struck by a vehicle, and the suspect fled the scene. 16 indicted on 116 felonies in one of biggest drug busts in West Metro Police said they found the suspect on the ramp from Interstate 70 to Interstate 25. He was taken into custody.It started as a death investigation at 10th Avenue and Newton Street, police said Saturday morning.A couple of hours later, DPD said the case was being investigated as a homicide.The victim's identity and cause of death will be released by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner, police said.
