AUSTIN (Nexstar) -- A bill to assert the state's preeminence over many local regulations passed the Texas House on Wednesday and is likely to be signed into law this legislative session.The Texas Regulatory Consistency Act is intended to standardize regulations between cities. It would nullify many local ordinances and prohibit municipalities from adopting ordinances that relate to broad areas of law the state already addresses. These include the state codes relating to labor, business and commerce, agriculture, finance, insurance, natural resources, occupations, and property.The bill's author, Lubbock Republican Dustin Burrows, said the bill will save small businesses from navigating often confusing and costly regulations."We want those small business owners creating new jobs and providing for their families, not trying to navigate a Byzantine array of local regulations that twist and turn every time they cross city limit sign," he said.The National Federation of Independent Busine...

ATLANTA (AP) — The ASUN Conference and the Western Athletic Conference announced Monday their football partnership is now a new league known as the United Athletic Conference.The nine schools in the two conferences have teamed up for football-only competition the last two seasons. DALLAS — The State of Hockey took a collective gasp when Marc-Andre Fleury led the Wild onto the ice Wednesday night at American Airlines Center.Never mind that Filip Gustavsson set a new franchise playoff record with 51 saves in Game 1 on Monday night to lead the Wild to a 3-2 win in double overtime over the Dallas Stars. Microsoft agrees to buy $50M parcel intended for Foxconn after plans flopped in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. — Microsoft has agreed to buy a $50 million parcel of land in southeastern Wisconsin meant for Foxconn after the world’s largest electronics manufacturer failed to fulfill grandiose promises to build a massive facility that would employ thousands of workers.Microsoft plans to build a $1 billion data center on the 315-acre parcel in Mount Pleasant, a village of about 27,000 people in Racine County, about 30 miles south of Milwaukee. It’s unclear how many people the center might employ. Paul Englis, Microsoft’s director of global community research and engagement, told the Racine County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday that such centers typically employ 300 to 400 people.The village already is home to a Foxconn Technology Group manufacturing facility. After 38-year-old Donshay Hardy was shot in St. Paul, leading three children to flee from the residence, prosecutors charged her husband with murder.A warrant was out for Eddie Lee Webb’s arrest, but he died by suicide on Sunday and prosecutors dismissed the court case Tuesday. The criminal complaint against him was also unsealed.The complaint tells not only of the killing of Hardy, but about three children who were in the Battle Creek-area home with Hardy. One tried to intervene after seeing the 43-year-old with a gun, but Webb locked the child out of the room and then gunshots rang out. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The next Red Cross blood drive could be coming directly to you. The Red Cross has launched two new bloodmobile trucks.Each vehicle is anticipated to collect more than 3,000 units of blood a year. The Red Cross said the trucks will give them the freedom to bring collections into communities that might not have been able to access them before. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! "This blood mobile is essential to helping the community," American Red Cross Regional CEO Kevin Coffey said. "We are able to go to rural communities, we are able to be at community events, we are able to be at small businesses that might not have had the space to host a blood drive, but this product will be able to meet that need."The bloodmobile will be seen throughout Albany in the coming weeks. It will be hosting more than 25 drives on the go until the end of July.

Fire breaks out at Jamestown Mall

LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A three-alarm fire broke out at an old shopping mall in north St. Louis County.Fire officials said the blaze occurred around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday at Jamestown Mall in Florissant.Officials said firefighters encountered heavy fire and debris in the walkways of the building. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to SSM Health DePaul Hospital for treatment.Firefighters from multiple agencies are on the scene combatting the flames.
