SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Weather officials are urging Bay Area residents to get on top of storm prep now as wet unsettled weather returns to the Bay Area Wednesday. Wednesday will bring the first of two rain systems expected this week. The first of the two rainmakers is expected to hit Wednesday through Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service. The second is due to arrive on Friday through Saturday morning. The active weather pattern could continue into early January, according to the NWS.The systems will bring increased chance for wind along with high winds. A High Surf Advisory also goes into effect Thursday with the NWS warning of potentially "deadly" conditions at the coast. Driver and dog killed in vehicle fire after crashing into tree

(KRON) -- A man and his dog died early Tuesday morning after the vehicle they were traveling in crashed into a tree and caught fire, the Antioch Police Department said. Antioch PD responded at approximately 2:45 a.m. to Wilbur Avenue near the Apollo Court intersection on a report of a vehicle fire. Christmas sideshow in Oakland caught on video The vehicle had crashed into a tree, police said. Antioch PD officers along with Contra Costa County Fire Department personnel responded and were able to extinguish the vehicle fire.The driver, a 28-year-old Oakland man, and his dog succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Police are withholding the names pending notification of next of kin.Speed and alcohol appear to have been factors in the crash, police said. No further information was provided.
